INSPIRING DAILY DEVOTIONAL ® … Great teaching on fasting

Text(s) for today: Matt. 17:14-21

“And when they… had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord…” Acts 14:23.

Many pray but not many pray with fasting. Some even think that today, Christians are not supposed to fast. They claim Jesus Christ came to abolish/cancel fasting, but this is not true. In fact, it’s a lie ‘cooked’ from the pits of hell.

Here’s the reason:

One day some folks came to Jesus. They inquire why Jesus’ disciples did not fast at all. Jesus explained that it’s because He (Jesus) was still with them physically and that if He goes away, they will fast (Matt. 9:14 – 15; Mk. 2:18 – 20). This is indeed profound: from this story we understand that fasting is required more now than ever (because Jesus has been taken away)! Praise God!

There are some Christians who do not fast when the church declares a corporate /group/church fast. This attitude is offensive to the spirit of God (Heb. 13:17; Matt. 23:1 – 3).

Fasting is a spiritual discipline. It takes one’s focus off food and other canal things unto God. The more we fast, the stronger we become spiritually.

Fasting takes one’s focus off food…unto God.
