INSPIRING DAILY DEVOTIONAL ® … You can overcome every challenge of sin 1
Text(s) for today: Read 1 Cor.10:13; Matt. 5:48; 2 Cor.13:9; Matt. 26:37-45
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father… is perfect” Matt. 5:48.
.Many give up in finding solutions to evil habits. This challenge or habit may be drunkenness, masturbation, fornication, smoking, pornography or even something different.
Is it practically possible to overcome every challenge of sin?
Of course yes! Today’s key verse emphatically vocalizes this.
Bible again says ‘no temptation has come your way that is too hard for the flesh and blood to bear. But God can be trusted not to allow you to suffer any temptation beyond your powers of endurance. He will see to it that every temptation has a way out, so that it will never be impossible for you to bear it.”1 Cor.10:13 (PHILIPS)
So you see, irrespective of the magnitude of temptation (temptation is simply the challenge [for you] to sin), it is not at all beyond you. So why did you fall to it?
Perhaps you want to say, ‘Hold on Pastor; I’ve done all I know to do about it. I’ve prayed several times for a change, read my Bible, etc., yet the evil habit hasn’t left.’
Well, there is something else you have not done yet. Jesus did it- and he taught us to do same. It produces 100% results always! Jesus taught us: “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation (so that you don’t fall into temptation)…” Matt. 26:41 KJV.
Now these two words are very, very important. I can’t overemphasize this. So important!
It says two things are necessary for us not to fall into temptation;
‘Watching’ is different from ‘prayer.’ Remember Jesus could have just said ‘pray.’ Perhaps you’ve been doing the latter (i.e. praying) but I have to tell you the latter alone is not enough. Actually, many think they have prayed several times (like the one who told the Pastor to ‘hold on’ earlier) but what they are oblivious of is that what they did was not prayer at all!
Prayer offered must be offered effectively. So how do I pray effectively and what does it mean to watch?
To effectively deal with sinful practices:
Believe you can overcome, for that is the first step. (Mark 9:23; Matt. 19:26).
This insight-filled teaching continues tomorrow God willing right here...
Prayer & Confessions (pray out loudly and say it BOLDLY)
Lord I thank you sin (mention the particular challenge, be it alcoholism, etc. ) shall not gain mastery over me (Rom. 6:14a). By virtue of the power in your Word I’ve read today, I’m free, totally free (Jn. 8:32). Halleluyah! (spend some few minutes praising God for the power in His Word – Heb. 4:12)
