INSPIRING DAILY DEVOTIONAL ® … You don’t need a sword

Text(s) for today: 1 Sam. 17

“David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel…’ “ 1 Sam. 17:45.

Many a time, we get worried, disturbed, or even afraid of one challenge, problem, difficulty or the other. It may be an academic challenge, employment/career challenge or even a health challenge. Perhaps, your grades have not been good or you are facing opposition in the office. You may have gotten to your wits End trying to brainstorm a way out of the situation. Now you despair and live in constant fear of the worse happening, but as a Christian, your life shouldn’t be that wayYou have a God who is concerned with even the minutest detail of your life (Luke12:7) and if He is, what makes you think He’s left you to fight for yourself, all on your own?

The Israelites found themselves in the same situation. Each night and day, for more than a full month they lived in great fear – from the lowest servant to the king. For forty days and night, it seemed there was no way out of their predicament (1 Samuel17:1-16). Right before their eyes was a challenger “extraordinaire” – Goliath of Gath, by name. A man of great stature, cladded with impermeable accoutrements from the crown of his head to the soles of his feet except his face.

Quite unfortunately, no man could effectively reach his sword to his face owing to his stature. According to the rule of this battle, only one Israelite and one Philistine should be presented and not more than an individual from each division. Surely, the Israelites had fought many battles but this one certainly is different –  the future really looked bleak.

Like these Israelites, perhaps it looks like there is no hope for your challenge, but the good news is that, there are some battles God is most interested in –  challenges beyond our abilities! As a Christian, such battles are the Lord’s and they defy the rules of warfare such as the use of swords, experience as a warrior, shields, amours, suitability by age, etc. becomes unnecessary.Praise God!

Perhaps have been looking for a job and they are a requesting from you years of experience in that field of work, but like David, here you are with experience in another field. Beloved, when the Lord takes over your battles, they over look your inexperience and employ you. Just like David had the audacity to confront the challenge despite his inexperience in battle, so must you also be bold enough to apply for those jobs. Again like David, stress on your strengths, thus what you can do to help your dream company (1 Samuel: 17).

You may have been thinking, ‘I don’t know anyone in high office that’s why I haven’t got any job as at now.’ Well, when Jehovah fights for you, “who-you-know” doesn’t become a factor anymore, remember that David was not known at that time. Is it a health situation? Well, when the Lord takes over, like the woman with the issue of blood, medicine becomes unnecessary (Luke 8:43-48). If it’s about your grades, your grades change.

I want you to know the Lord has taken over, so be confident. You’re a winner.

Prayer & Confessions (pray out loudly)

Lord I thank you for your word. You have taken over my battles in the area of my health, finance, job, family, etc. I am a victor, in Jesus’ matchless name. Amen.
