INSPIRING DAILY DEVOTIONAL … You can reach your goal
Hello, today our Vice-President shares with us an insightful message – a very timely one. Read on…
Text(s) for today: Read Heb 12:1-3
I run toward the goal, so that I can win the prize of being called to heaven. This is the prize that God offers because of what Christ Jesus has done. Phil 3: 14 CEV
It is amazing many are doing everything possible to take hold of certain promises or prizes in life and in the Word of God(this may be getting to heaven, attaining academic excellence, enjoying perfect health). The opening scripture makes us understand that before you can get the prize you have to concentrate on the mark( eg. overcoming the trial, walking in faith) for the prize.
In 1 Cor. 9:23-25, we understand that the christian’s life or any prize before you is like a race, and every race has a mark ( finishing point). Like in football when they are having a match the players do not go about fighting among themselves or trying to go for the cup or prize directly. And they do not also leave the field to where that prize is but they rather focus on the mark (goal) which is the win or goal(s) they have to score since that is the mark set before them. In this regard, as Christians we have a mark to press toward and not to go directly for the price.
Jesus focused on how he will attain or press toward the mark. Bible says in Luke 22: 43 that he prayed during the time before his arrest, and that an angel of the Lord came to strengthen him. Jesus was concerned about the mark so Matt 26:42 he prayed that the will of God will be done, which was the pain he had to pass through on the cross. He did not think of ascending straight to the throne which was his prize.
The Bible makes us understand in the book of Revelation that there is a reward we will receive according to our work (Rev. 21:13). Therefore as Christians, we should be concerned about practising or obeying God’s Word than always finding or looking for other means to attain the prize. If it’s a first class; man, we have to study harder, go for lectures, etc than relying on exam malpractices or bribing a friend or a lecturer to help you attain that class.
Prayer & Confessions (pray out loudly)
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank you for your Word. I pray that from henceforth you will strengthen me to fulfill your task or assignment before me in order to get the prize in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
